Places — By Albert Seuba on April 22, 2010 5:06 pmOnce you have made the most of the attractions of Barcelona, you must not miss a visit to the Poble Espanyol, close to the Plaza Espanya and on the wonderful hill of Montjuic. This incredible hotspot for tourists will take you out of the city, in a wonderful traditional village, showing visitors a representative sample of Spanish architecture.
The Poble Espanyol was built for the World Fair of 1929. To carry this project, the architects traveled through typical Spanish villages to create all the characteristics and the diversity of a Spanish village. The village was renovated in 1988 and new attractions were added. When you first enter the Poble Espanyol, you have the feeling of being into the centre of a charming traditional village. It includes many buildings of all kinds, like a town hall, a church, a monastery, shops and residential buildings. The village consists of elements rebuilt on the model of authentic Spanish buildings. Others are original and have been transported right to the middle of Barcelona. Discover Aragon, Castilla, Andalusia, Asturias, Murcia, or Catalunya without leaving Barcelona! First, we recommend you to enjoy the Plaza Mayor, a lovely square with many small restaurant offering delicious menus and terraces. You will have delicious traditional cuisine while admiring the beautiful landscapes. Then, visit Galicia, Asturias and Aragon, and Andalusia with its white village.
Enjoy the sun and stroll around this wonderful village and benefit the convivial atmosphere and the gentle perfume of the orange trees in the Poble Espanyol. The many shops offer crafts and artists’ workshops, and you will even be able to learn about the trade secrets of these wonderful objects. It will be the perfect place for buying souvenirs!
