A light filled loft in El Born.
This trendy apartment in Barcelona city centre, is on the 4th floor of a restored nineteenth century building in El Born, one of the most up and coming neighbourhoods of Barcelona. The restoration of the building includes the installation of an elevator that takes you directly into the air-conditioned loft with its beautiful original wooden beams. It has not one, but two balconies looking over the traditional Catalonian streets, and means that this is a particularly luminous apartment.
The flat has two double sofa beds in the living room, and a further double bedroom. The open span kitchen, dining and living area also sports a television, hi-fi, air-conditioning, heating and a coffee-maker. The kitchen of course comes equipped with everything you need to prepare meals for 6 people.
The apartment is excellently located in the centre of Barcelona, next to the “Convent de San Agustí”, the Chocolate Museum, and a stone’s throw away from the Picasso Museum and the famous “Parc de la Ciutadella”. The nearest metro stations to the building are Jaume I, and Barceloneta, which gives you direct access to Barcelona’s popular beach.
The Area
El Born in its heyday was the centre of the Medieval community. Due to the influences of the Order of the Knights of Saint George, El Borne was where the local jousting tournaments and religious processions of Barcelona took place. There are still remnants of this in the Gothic architecture, cobbles streets and the ancient church that make up the El Born area.
Now El Born is one of the most up and coming areas, and famed amongst the Barcelona locals for the neighbourhood’s quirky shops and chic and cosy bars, often playing a variety of live music throughout the week. The area is probably one of the best to check out the local specialty, tapas, or, with El Born’s proximity to Barceloneta, a helping of the renowned Spanish Paella.
Sights in the area of El Born include the beautiful Barcelona church, ‘Santa Maria del Mar’, a wonderful example of the ornate architecture that Barcelona and the myriad of pretty little side streets. You can walk to El Born from Barrio Gotico, and Placa Jaume.
